Protocol

All objects, entities, and phenomena requiring any type of containment at H&D are assigned three elements along with the security level required to access information related to it.

Containment Class

The containment class is an indicator that shows how difficult an object is to contain, in terms of needs, budgeting, research priority, and other considerations - though the most important factor contributing to its containment class is the difficulty and purpose of its containment.

SafeSafe-class IOIs are anomalies that are easily and safely contained. This is often due to the fact that H&D has researched the IOI well enough that containment does not require significant resources or that the anomalies require a specific and conscious activation or trigger. Classifying an IOI as Safe, however, does not mean that handling or activating it does not pose a threat.

EuclidEuclid-class IOIs are anomalies that require more resources to contain completely or where containment isn't always reliable. Usually this is because the IOI is insufficiently understood or inherently unpredictable. Euclid is the Class with the greatest scope, and it's usually a safe bet that an IOI will be this class if it doesn't easily fall into any of the other standard Containment Classes.

KeterKeter-class IOIs are anomalies that are exceedingly difficult to contain consistently or reliably, with containment procedures often being extensive and complex. H&D often can't contain these IOIs well due to not having a solid understanding of the anomaly, or lacking the technology to properly contain or counter it. A Keter IOI does not necessarily mean the IOI is dangerous, just that it is simply very difficult or costly to contain.

Disruption Class

The disruption class is an approximate measurement of an item’s ability to disturb the status quo. This class takes into account the speed at which the influence of an item’s ability will spread, how far it will spread, and how easily it can be neutralised.

DarkDark-level IOIs have little to no potential to disrupt the general population.

VlamVlam-level IOIs have low potential to disrupt the general population. Disruption is typically confined to a locality.

KeneqKeneq-level IOIs have medium potential to disrupt the general population. Disruption is typically confined to a region or city.

EkhiEkhi-level IOIs have high potential to disrupt the general population. Disruption is typically widespread, affecting major metropolitan areas or countries.

AmidaAmida-level IOIs are capable of worldwide disruption of the general population. Disruption is global, and is a significant threat to established normalcy. Threats that have the potential to disrupt an area larger than the boundaries of the planets Etheirys or Earth fall within the bounds of the Amida classification.

Risk Class

The risk class refers to the severity of an item’s effects on an individual person, and how easily one can recover from it. This class takes into account the ease at which individuals recover, the severity, and the proximity at which these effects are noticed.

NoticeThe anomaly in question has a low risk potential. Individuals nearby may feel minimal effects from the anomaly, but these effects rarely pose any harm or even discomfort.

CautionThe anomaly in question has a moderate risk potential. Individuals nearby will likely experience the effects of the anomaly, and these effects may cause discomfort or harm.

WarningThe anomaly in question has a high risk potential. Individuals nearby will likely experience the acute effects of the anomaly and will be at risk for experiencing severe harm, up to and including death.

DangerThe anomaly in question has a very high risk potential. Individuals nearby will invariably be exposed to harm, up to and including death. These effects are very difficult to mitigate.

CriticalThe anomaly in question has an extremely severe risk potential. Individuals nearby will invariably be exposed to acute, life-threatening harm. These effects cannot be mitigated.
